We bring you this beautiful natural geisha from the Don Pachi Estate; hand-carried by a personal friend from the Don Pachi Estate in Panama all the way into Singapore. This coffee is elegant and juicy with sweet notes of papayas and lychees, with a jasmine tea-like aroma and silky mouthfeel.

Now in their fifth generation, the Don Pachi Estate has been producing coffee for more than a century; 148 years to be exact. Francisco Antonio Serracín, who is known as Pachi, was a scholar of agriculture—coffee above all—and the founder of the Ministry of Agricultural Development's national coffee program in the 1960s.

In 1963, Pachi introduced Geisha (the coffee variety, also known as Gesha) to Panama. They thought it would hold up well against diseases, but initial experiments didn’t go well. The coffee plant grew strong, but produced very little coffee with small branches. Everyone said what was grown wasn’t coffee, but the 4th generation growers kept the coffee around anyway.

Don Pachi spaced the plants further apart than was typical, which made them more expensive to produce, and planted them at higher altitudes where the cherries matured more slowly, but developed more complexity. Over time the varietal mutated within the unique micro-climates on the slopes of the Barú Volcano in Western Panama where the moisture from the tropical Pacific and Caribbean Sea come together to produce year-round rains that drain through rich volcanic soils.

Don Pachi was able to help geisha reach its full potential. His efforts helped bring out the now famous flavour profile that is unlike any other coffee when grown right. It is clean, intensely sweet and floral. There’s a lot of acidity and fruity notes that include berries and tropical fruits, plus a distinct bergamot and jasmine finish.

The production of coffee in this Panama has been shaped over the years, and through the Association of Specialty Coffees the Gesha variety has become an icon, reaching, and also constantly breaking their own record-high prices in global auctions.
